Poster Sessions Give Student Researchers
Chance to Shine

OAK RIDGE, Tenn.—More than 100 student researchers from scientific and technical programs at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) were given the opportunity to showcase their efforts at the Student Poster Session, hosted at ORNL last week.
The day-long poster session was held Wednesday at ORNL Building 5100 and was open to students participating in summer research programs at ORNL, most of which are administered by the Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education (ORISE).
Science Undergraduate Laboratory Internship participant Roy Dar (pictured right) said, "The SULI program enabled me to participate in an exciting and current research environment with today's top notch scientists and facilities. I could not have asked for more and felt a truly unique opportunity to learn and develop myself."
Dar received an undergraduate degree in physics at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, Israel, and will be working on his master’s degree at the University of Tennessee this spring, while continuing his research at ORNL.
Another SULI participant, Carlos Ortiz is a junior at Davidson College in North Carolina majoring physics. He is interested in many scientific disciplines and is still unsure of what field he would pursue in graduate school. Ortiz said, “I never thought I could learn so much in 10 weeks. Maybe the thing I enjoyed the most was discussing biology with the physicists.”
The SULI program is administered by ORISE and offers undergraduate students opportunities to participate in research in a broad range of science and engineering activities related to basic sciences, energy and the environment.
