Web-Braille
General Information
Web-Braille is a service that provides access via the Internet for Braille materials from the National Library Service for the Blind and Physically Handicapped (NLS).  The site contains the full text of thousands of NLS produces books and magazines in an electronic form of grade 2 (contracted) Braille.  Files can be viewed online or downloaded for later viewing or embossing.
 
You will need a device with which you can read Braille, such as Braille display, a Braille Lite or other note taker, or an embosser.  If you have one of these components and access to the Internet, then you can sign up for Web-Braille service. 
 
Links to Web-Braille books are included in the NLS Online catalog.  This catalog is located at www.loc.gov/nls  To retrieve Web-Braille titles only, put the words "web braille" (as two words with no hyphen) in the "key word" field.  The results list will contain a link to each volume of a Web-Braille title.  When a Web-Braille volume is selected, the user will be prompted for a Web-Braille user ID and password.

Registration
To register for Web-Braille, eligible program users must first contact our library.  You will need a password of your choosing (six to eight letters or numbers in lowercase) and an e-mail address.  That information will be sent to the National Library Service.  When your subscription is activated (usually within twnety-four hours), NLS will e-mail you with further instructions.  To obtain a password, contact TBABS at 1-800-452-0292 or email:  tbabs.info@state.or.us
