 About NHLBI

NHLBI Activities to Address the Recommendations of the
Working Group on Epidemiology and Prevention of Cardiovascular Disease

The Report of the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Advisory Council’s Working Group on Epidemiology (1998) recommended that the Institute carefully review recommendations of recent task forces and workshops on epidemiology and prevention research, particularly those of the Task Force on Epidemiology and Prevention of Cardiovascular Disease (1994). This report summarizes the NHLBI activities addressing these recommendations that have been completed, continued, or started since 1994. Activities are grouped into Investigator-initiated and Institute-initiated programs. Studies may be listed more than once if relevant to more than one recommendation. A description of Institute-initiated programs is attached. Descriptions of Investigator-initiated programs can be found through the NIH-wide Computerized Retrieval of Information on Scientific Projects (CRISP) system at: https://www-commons.cit.nih.gov/crisp/. Selecting the query form at: http://commons.cit.nih.gov/crisp/owa/CRISP.Generate_Ticket and entering the principal investigator's name in the appropriate space will generate a page with all his/her funded grants and links to the abstract for each.

Research recommendations that may deserve additional emphasis in both Investigator-initiated and Institute-initiated research are listed at the end of this summary.
