Meeting Unmet Needs

Sickle Cell Illustration

Natcher Auditorium, NIH
June 13-14, 2002

This two-day workshop will focus on the major unmet needs faced by adults with sickle cell disease (SCD) and the development of strategies to address them. Workshop participants will identify and describe the social and economic problems and needs of adults with SCD as well as their quality of life issues; their information and educational needs and those of their providers, and their health care problems and needs. Following the presentation and discussion of these issues and current programs to address them, workshop participants will break out into several groups to begin the process of developing objectives and strategies to meet the needs of this community. The ultimate goal of the workshop will be to craft research initiatives that will increase our knowledge and understanding of the problems and needs of adults with SCD and to test solutions to meet those challenges.
