GOVERNOR RITTER TO HOST EDUCATION FORUM IN COLORADO SPRINGS ON THURSDAY

Gov. Ritter will be hosting an education forum in Colorado Springs on Thursday, focusing on the importance of higher-education to Colorado's future and his Colorado Achievement Plan for Kids reform proposal.

The forum is open to the public and will include participation from higher-ed and K-12 students, teachers and administrators.

WHEN: 9:45 to 10:45 a.m., Thursday, April 17, 2008

WHERE: University of Colorado at Colorado Springs, The Lodge, 1420 Austin Bluffs Parkway

About Gov. Ritter's plans for higher education: Gov. Ritter strongly believes that higher education holds the key to Colorado's economic future. However, Colorado currently ranks 49th in the nation in higher-ed funding. From 2001 to 2006, no other state cut higher-ed funding more than Colorado. Improving Colorado's commitment to higher education is one of Gov. Ritter's top priorities and he has made a number of strategic investments in this area.

About the Colorado Achievement Plan for Kids: CAP4K is Gov. Ritter's proposal to modernize and update Colorado's K-12 content, proficiency, assessment and college-admission standards. Now pending in the legislature, the plan would give all students the skills and knowledge they need to succeed in college or a career in today's globally competitive 21st century economy.

Please join Gov. Ritter at 9:45 a.m. Thursday to discuss these and other education issues facing Colorado.
