Inspections

Building inspections

DDES building and fire inspectors inspect residential and commercial building projects that are under construction in unincorporated King County for compliance with King County Building Codes.

For inspections on buildings inside city limits, you must contact the city directly. For example, for property inside Seattle city limits, contact the Seattle Department of Planning and Development at 206-684-8850.

Schedule building inspections online at http://inspections.metrokc.gov or by phone at 1-888-5-INSPCT (1-888-546-7728), or find out more about the building inspection process, plumbing or electrical inspections, and how to contact a building inspector.

Land use inspections

DDES land use inspectors monitor construction of roads, parking lots, road frontage (such as curbs, gutters, sidewalks), drainage facilities, erosion control, and other site work on developments or building permits to ensure County regulations and permit requirements are met. Inspections are limited to projects located in unincorporated King County and some cities with an Interlocal agreement with DDES.

Land use inspections are typically related to subdivisions (plats), short subdivisions (short plats), commercial developments, right-of-way permits, and some grading and residential permits with site improvements.

Land use inspections staff provide site inspections, approvals, complaint response, bond release, bond forfeiture, and engineering review of design plan changes, as well as issue an extension to right-of-way use permits (limited).

Schedule a land use inspection by calling 206-296-6642, or if you know your land use inspector's name and phone number, you may call directly. Go to land use inspections for detailed information on when to call and schedule inspections.
