Herb Clark, center, received the Jefferson Award for exceptional performance collecting and reporting the weather for 53 years near Powers Lake, ND. The award was presented by MIC Jim Fors and HMT Vern, NWS Bismarck, ND. The presentation was combined with an 85th birthday celebration at which several friends and family gathered in Herb's honor.
see caption belowNWS presented a Jefferson Award to Joy Cudney of Trousdale, KS. At the ceremony were DAPM John F. Orgler, NWS Dodge City, KS, and backup observer Ken Hottovy. Joy's daughter, Shirley Roenbaugh, and MIC Larry Ruthi, were also present. Joy was also given letters of congratulations from U.S. Senator Pat Roberts and U.S. Rep. Jerry Moran.

William Culp was awarded the Thomas Jefferson Award and Stoll Award for his service as an exemplary Cooperative Observer at Rock Hill, SC, since 1952. William inherited the job from his father who was the Rock Hill observer from 1912 to 1952. The site dates back to 1899. John D. Isenhower received the Thomas Jefferson for 56 plus years of exceptional service. He received the John Campanius Holm award in 1983 and the Edward H. Stoll award in 1996. Pictured from right to left are: John, wife Roberta,

The award was presented to a packed house of family and friends, with numerous letters of congratulations from Senators and Congressmen read by Marla K. Doxey, DAPM, NWS Hastings, NE.

Gordon Jackson was given a Special Award on his retirement as an NWS observer. The NWS has benefited greatly over the past 35 years by his participation in the Cooperative Weather Program. Few individuals have taken such a personal interest in taking the weather observations and the responsibility for the instruments and their upkeep.
