Discover the Washington, D.C. Area

If you’re new to Washington, you are about to make your home in one of the most fast-paced, exciting and culturally rewarding cities in the world. Everyone knows the city as the home of our national government, but there is much more to do here once you’ve seen Congress, the White House and the Supreme Court. You’ll find a wealth of things to do with your free time in the daylight hours – from sports to music to museums – and a huge variety of restaurants, clubs and theater experiences to choose from after the sun goes down.

The Washington, D.C. area is more than just the District of Columbia. Millions of “Washingtonians” live in Maryland, Northern Virginia and West Virginia communities, and these areas multiply the number of places to see and things to do in the area. The Metrorail and Metrobus systems reach into Maryland and Virginia where you can explore extensive park systems, shopping, world-class entertainment venues, professional and college sports events and educational opportunities among many other things.
