Who We Are

Vocational Development Center, (VODEC) is a private, non-profit 501 (c)(3) corporation founded in 1968. We provide vocational, residential, and day services for persons with mental retardation and others with developmental disabilities or mental illness. We provide services in Nebraska and Iowa.

Our Mission, is to support and advocate for persons with disabilities so those persons have opportunities to develop to their fullest potential, to interact with society, to experience a sense of belonging, and to contribute something of themselves at their own levels of ability."

Our Services

Vocational

  • Sheltered work training program at one of VODEC's three locations in Omaha, LaVista & Council Bluffs.
  • Enclave work training environment on-site local businesses.
  • Supported employment including job placement, coaching and a full range of follow up services.
  • School to work transitional, work experience and work adjustment services.
  • Programs emphasizing basic daily living and social skills.

Residential

  • VODEC's residential professionals are specially trained to provide support and services to individuals living on their own.
  • Priority is placed on fostering an environment that inspires inclusion.
  • Provide ample opportunities for each individual to develop their full potential.
  • Person-Centered development of basic living skills.

Adult Day Services

  • Innovative programs and activities.
  • Exceptional care in a supportive and stimulating environment.
  • The latest in multi-sensory stimulation therapy.
  • Daily living skills.

Our Credentials & Certifications

  • We have accreditation from CARF for Community Employment Services and Organizational Employment services.
  • We are a certified provider of assisted and supported day & residential services by the Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services.
  • We are certified to provide vocational instructional services by the Nebraska Department of Education.
  • We are approved by the Iowa Department of Human Services to provide waiver services for persons with mental retardation and Adult Rehabilitation Option services for persons with mental illness.
