Nursery Registration: Required to engage in business of nurseryman, dealer, landscape contractor or sod producer for woody plants and sod only. The program also provides the certification required by other states for the exportation of nursery stock. Registration fee: $80/yr. All registrations expire December 31. (35-26-101 through 115, C.R.S.)

Pesticide Applicator License: Required if work will involve application of pesticides. (35-10-101 through 128, C.R.S.) License fee: $350/yr.

Pesticide appicators must attempt to notify any person on the Department of Agriculture's "Registry of Pesticide-Sensitive Persons" at least 24 hours before any turf or ornamental pesticide applications are made to any property abutting a registered person's property. (35-10-112, C.R.S.)

Noxious Weeds: Under the Colorado Weed Management Act (35-5.5-101 through 119, C.R.S.), the Department of Agriculture designates a list of Noxious Weeds. The Department and local governing bodies may enforce noxious weed management plans, including restriction of use of such species as ornamentals.

If importing plants from foreign countries, or exporting to them, must obtain permit from this office.

Local
Local Licensing Authorities
Local licensing authorities often require a license for tree service businesses (planting, cutting, trimming, pruning, or removing trees).
Check with the local water supply agency regardiing any restrictions or permits for planting new sod or other landscaping.
Local codes require sprinkler system installations have approved backflow prevention devices.

NOTE:  Except as noted above, there is no state licensing requirements for landscaping service including cutting grass, trimming trees or lawn aeration. A plumber's license not necessary for sprinkler system installation.
