DEALER LICENSE: applicant dealer must submit: Financial statements; $30,000 surety bond; Copy of Articles of Incorporation, partnership agreement, franchise agreement or Articles of Organization and Trade Name Registration; Photograph of building to be used and "Place of Business" affidavit; Signed application and addendum; Passing score on dealer test; Must have proof of sales tax license. NOTE: A dealer must sell under a registered trade name.

SALESPERSON LICENSE: Applicant dealer must submit:

Application, complete and signed by dealer. Must submit a $5,000 surety bond. Salesperson's license is issued for salesperson to work at a specific dealership. When salesperson changes dealer, a new license must be issued to the new employing dealer. Passing Score on salesperson's test.

BUYER AGENTS: Those who are hired by a consumer for a fee to assist, represent, or act on behalf of the consumer in connection with the purchase or lease of a motor vehicle. They cannot buy or sell vehicles. Buyer Agents cannot be employed or receive any compensation from dealers or manufacturers.

DEALER LICENSE PLATES: Contact office for application for dealer plates (must request motorcycle dealer plates, if needed.) In-transit plates are issued automatically. County offices issue all plates.

NOTE: Dealer License Plates are only issued to licensed dealers.


NOTE:  See 12-6-102(12) C.R.S. for definitions and exemptions. In general "Motor Vehicle" is defined under Colorado law includes cars, trucks, motorcycles and trailers.
