The Colorado State Board of Marriage and Family Therapist Examiners licenses persons who meet the minimal requirements for this licensure (C.R.S.12-43-504).

Minimum general requirements for licensure: Is at least twenty-one years of age; Holds a masters or doctoral degree from an accredited school or college in marriage and family therapy or its equivalent; Has had at least two years (one year with a doctoral degree) post degree supervised experience; Has demonstrated professional competence by passing an examination in marriage and family therapy as prescribed by the Board; Has completed an approved jurisprudence workshop as prescribed by the Board.
