Emergency Medical Services & King County Medic One

The Star of LifeKing County Emergency Medical Services (EMS) operates in a coordinated partnership with eight dispatch centers, six paramedic providers, and thirty-five fire departments. This partnership also requires collaboration with local hospital emergency departments, private ambulance companies, and other organizations.

The theme for the 2004 EMS Annual Report to the King County Council is analysis of the EMS system in King County which is at the midway point of the six-year EMS levy. The following summary is a broad overview of the major issues that remain in the current EMS levy cycle, but also presents some of the regional themes and future challenges emerging for the next EMS levy in 2008.

WAC 246-976-960, Regional Emergency Medical Services and Trauma Care Systems, established the requirement for regions to adopt patient care procedures and specifically identified elements that must be included. The Central Region has developed and adopted Patient Care Procedures consistent with this requirement.

The goal of the Seattle-King County Community Responder CPR-AED Program is to improve survival from sudden cardiac death in Seattle-King County by reducing the time to defibrillation by having community responders use an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) before EMS arrives.

The Criteria Based Dispatch Guidelines are an internationally recognized innovative approach to emergency medical dispatching. These guidelines have been implemented in a number of jurisdictions in the United States, Sweden, Norway, and Israel and are available for use by other jurisdictions via a licensing agreement.

gray bullet Basic Life Support (BLS) Training for King County EMTs and First Responders
We provide training and education for 3,500 EMTs and First Responders representing 34 Fire Departments in King County. These men and women are the backbone of emergency care in King County.

This online training website was developed by King County EMS Training and Education for BLS Providers as an alternative for completing the cognitive objectives of the annual CBT courses. It is only accessible to those providers who have established CBT online accounts with King County EMS.
