Jim Firman is CEO of the National Council on the Aging (NCOA) and one of the Nation's leading innovators and advocates on behalf of older persons. Since joining NCOA in 1995, Dr. Firman has revitalized and helped chart a new course for the organization. NCOA's national initiative with SAMHSA on substance abuse and mental health resulted in the 2002 publication Promoting Older Adult Health: Aging Network Partnerships to Address Medication, Alcohol and Mental Health Problems. The Get Connected Toolkit: Linking Older Adults With Medication, Alcohol, and Mental Health Resources educates aging service staff and older consumers about issues and resources for meeting alcohol and medication misuse and mental health needs.
