GOV. RITTER NAMES NEW MEMBERS TO WILDLIFE AND WATER QUALITY COMMISSIONS
 

Gov. Bill Ritter announced the appointments today of two new members to the Colorado Wildlife Commission and three new members to the Colorado Water Quality Control Commission.

 

"Colorado's environmental resources -- particularly our wildlife and our water -- are among this state's most precious assets," Gov. Ritter said. "Each of the people I'm appointing today understands they will play a critical role as stewards of these resources for years to come."

 

Appointed to the Colorado Wildlife Commission:

  • Robert Streeter of Fort Collins. Streeter is a wildlife and wetlands-restoration consultant. Clients include Trout Unlimited. He is a member of the Larimer County Open Lands Board and a representative to the South Platte Land Board. He has worked in a variety of roles with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, including as assistant director of refuges and wildlife from 1995 to 1998.
  • Dorothea Farris of Carbondale. Farris has served as a county commissioner in Pitkin County since 1997. She is president of Colorado Counties Inc. and on the Board of Directors of the National Association of Counties. Since 2006, she has served on Colorado Division of Wildlife's Public Education Advisory Council. Farris also has extensive experience in educational instruction and policymaking.

 

Appointed to the Colorado Water Quality Control Commission:

  • Peter Butler of Durango. Butler is a former member of the Colorado Water Quality Control Commission, having served from 1996 to 1999. He currently is chair of the La Plata County Water Advisory Commission, a member of the Lake Durango Water Authority, and co-coordinator of the Animas River Stakeholders Group.
  • Jill C. Harris McConaughy of Glenwood Springs. McConaughy has worked as a sole practitioner attorney since 2004, with an emphasis in water law. From 1998 to 2004 she was associate counsel to the Colorado River Water Conservation District, and from 1996 to 1998 she was an attorney with the Denver law firm Ozer & Ozer.
  • Janelle A. Barrilleaux of Golden. Since 2000, Barrilleaux has served as director of environmental programs for the City and County of Denver's Department of Aviation at Denver International Airport since 2000. From 2000 to 2006, she also oversaw environmental assessment and remediation efforts the former Stapleton International Airport.

 

The nine-member Colorado Water Quality Control Commission is responsible for developing and maintaining a comprehensive and effective program for prevention, control and abatement of water pollution throughout Colorado. Terms are for three years and the appointments require Senate confirmation.

 

The nine-member Colorado Wildlife Commission is responsible for licensing requirements and the promulgation of rules, regulations and orders concerning wildlife programs in Colorado.  Terms are for four years and require Senate confirmation.
