Gov. Ritter Visits Iraq, Afghanistan and Kuwait -- Dec. 2007
At the invitation of the U.S. Departments of Defense and State, Gov. Ritter and two other governors visited National Guard troops, active-duty military personnel and reservists in Iraq, Afghanistan and Kuwait the week of Dec. 10-14. The trip included a tour of the U.S.-protected Green Zone and a state dinner in Baghdad, a visit to Camp Eggers in Afghanistan, and meetings at Camp Arifjan in Kuwait.

Gov. Bill Ritter and Lieutenant Governor Barbara O'Brien join with Kaiser Permanente to announce the launch of LiveWell Colorado on Dec. 6 as a non-profit entity charged with coordinating obesity prevention and wellness efforts throughout the State of Colorado.

Access to Recovery
Gov. Ritter accepts a $13.6 million check from Dr. Terry Cline (right) of the federal Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration on Nov. 28. The money will help fund the Colorado Access to Recovery Program for the next three years and aid an additional 6,000 Coloradans.

Climate Action Plan
In Nov. 2007, Gov. Ritter releases Colorado's first Climate Action Plan at Coors Field, outlining firm goals and clear strategies to reduce harmful greenhouse gas emissions and providing simple suggestions for all Coloradans to address global warming.

Government Efficiency
Gov. Ritter announces a series of government efficiency measures Oct. 15 on the West Steps of the state Capitol. The measures will help the state save and collect about $145 million over five years.

On Set at "Nowhereland"
On Oct. 9, Gov. Ritter, Lt. Gov. O'Brien and Mayor Hickenlooper visited the set of the new Eddie Murphy movie, "Nowhereland," being filmed in Denver in October.

Walk to School Day
Gov. Ritter walked to school with students, parents and teachers from Denver's Philips Elementary School on Oct. 3 as part of national Walk to School Day.

National Congress of American Indians
Gov. Ritter announced on Sept. 27 that Colorado will host hundreds of tribal leaders from across the United States in November for the National Congress of American Indians' 64th Annual Convention and Tradeshow.

Smoking Rates Decline
Gov. Ritter announced on Sept. 24 that the percentage of adult Coloradans who smoke has declined, making Colorado's smoking rate the 9th lowest in the nation.

Dove Creek Biodiesel Groundbreaking
