Gov. Ritter Visits Iraq, Afghanistan and Kuwait -- Dec. 2007


At the invitation of the U.S. Departments of Defense and State, Gov. Ritter and two other governors visited National Guard troops, active-duty military personnel and reservists in Iraq, Afghanistan and Kuwait the week of Dec. 10-14. The trip included a tour of the U.S.-protected Green Zone and a state dinner in Baghdad, a visit to Camp Eggers in Afghanistan, and meetings at Camp Arifjan in Kuwait.

Access to Recovery


Gov. Ritter accepts a $13.6 million check from Dr. Terry Cline (right) of the federal Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration on Nov. 28. The money will help fund the Colorado Access to Recovery Program for the next three years and aid an additional 6,000 Coloradans.

Climate Action Plan


In Nov. 2007, Gov. Ritter releases Colorado's first Climate Action Plan at Coors Field, outlining firm goals and clear strategies to reduce harmful greenhouse gas emissions and providing simple suggestions for all Coloradans to address global warming.

Government Efficiency


Gov. Ritter announces a series of government efficiency measures Oct. 15 on the West Steps of the state Capitol. The measures will help the state save and collect about $145 million over five years.

Gov. Ritter announced on Sept. 27 that Colorado will host hundreds of tribal leaders from across the United States in November for the National Congress of American Indians' 64th Annual Convention and Tradeshow.

Smoking Rates Decline


Gov. Ritter announced on Sept. 24 that the percentage of adult Coloradans who smoke has declined, making Colorado's smoking rate the 9th lowest in the nation.

Vestas Blades


Gov. Ritter, officials from Vestas Blades and local leaders break ground on June 14 on Vestas' new manufacturing plant in Windsor. The facility will produce 1200 wind-turbine blades a year when it becomes operational in 2008.
