Electronic Reporting System

NOAA Fisheries' Alaska Regional Office helped develop the Interagency Electronic Reporting System (IERS) to manage the Alaska groundfish fishery which harvests 4.5 billion pounds of seafood annually. The IERS provides the Alaska fishing industry with a consolidated electronic means of reporting production and landings of commercial fish and shellfish to multiple management agencies. IERS is a collaborative effort of NOAA Fisheries, Alaska Department of Fish and Game, and the International Pacific Halibut Commission.

Benefits of the electronic reporting system:

  • improved data quality
  • automated processing of data
  • improved process for correcting or updating information
  • more timely data available to fishery managers; Electronic transmission of the data allows timely and accurate reporting
  • reduce duplicative reporting of similar information to multiple agencies
