Local Scouts Help Salt Lake Wild Horses and Burros

Contact:  Jared Redington, (801) 712-3186

Salt Lake City—September 10, 2008—Bright and early on a recent Saturday morning, more than 60 Scouts gathered at the Salt Lake Regional Horse Center.  On September 6, 2008, under the direction of two Eagle Scout nominees, Scout Troop 1344 from the neighboring community of Herriman, Utah, worked tirelessly to finish a fencing project on the corrals surrounding the facility.  They successfully finished the project that afternoon—after contributing more than 400 hours of labor to the endeavor.

“These guys were chomping on the bit harder than my horses,” said Jared Redingtion, facility manager for the Wild Horse and Burro Program in Salt Lake City.

The Scouts replaced and painted much of the fencing, helped stack hay bales and cleaned up the facility warehouse.  The Bureau of Land Management Utah Salt Lake field office and the Wild Horse and Burro Program are truly grateful for the enthusiastic, hard work put in by Scout Troop 1344.

The public is encouraged to visit the Salt Lake Regional Horse Center and see the wild horses and burros that call it home.  For more information please call (801) 561-4632.
