Change Management: ASOS

ASOS Sensor Group Image

Welcome to the National Weather Service (NWS) Automated Surface Observing System (ASOS) Change Management Home Page. This page provides information on pending ASOS changes and the change control process, as well as sensor photographs linked to sensor information. Links to other ASOS pages, including State maps depicting ASOS locations, are also provided.

The NWS Change Management Section administers the configuration/change control process for ASOS. ASOS Requests for Change (RC) are submitted by participating agencies, which include the NWS, the Federal Aviation Administration, and the Department of Defense (Navy and Air Force). Technical, engineering, and meteorological aspects of RCs are evaluated by the ASOS Configuration Control Board (ACCB). Through these evaluations, the ACCB determines whether the RC should be forwarded to the higher-level ASOS Program Management Committee (APMC) for adjudication. The ACCB also determines test strategies, working group activities, and implementation priorities. The higher-level APMC is tasked with providing management oversight for program issues and major change control.
