U.S. Department of Labor awards $1.3 million grant to assist workers dislocated by closure of TTM Technologies facility in Dallas, Ore.

WASHINGTONThe U.S. Department of Labor today awarded a $1,351,216 grant to assist approximately 180 workers affected by the closure of the TTM Technologies Inc. facility located in Dallas, Ore.

“This $1.3 million grant will help workers access employment services so they can transition to new jobs in growing industries,” said Secretary of Labor Elaine L. Chao.

On December 7, 2006, TTM Technologies, formerly known as Tyco Electronics, informed affected workers of plans to close the Dallas facility.  Rapid Response activities were conducted in December 2006 and February and March 2007 to help inform affected workers of the assistance available to them.

On April 4, 2007, affected TTM Technologies workers were certified as eligible to apply for Trade Adjustment Assistance (TAA).  Through the TAA program, these workers will be able to access training.  The grant awarded today will provide services not covered under the TAA program, which may include assessment, career counseling, case management and job placement assistance.

National Emergency Grants are part of the secretary of labor’s discretionary fund and are awarded based on a state’s ability to meet specific guidelines.
