U.S. Secretary of Labor Elaine L. Chao Announces
$200,000 Grant to Aid Dislocated Workers in New Hampshire
WASHINGTON-U.S. Secretary of Labor Elaine L. Chao today announced a National Emergency Grant of $200,000 to aid workers in New Hampshire. The grant will provide assistance to approximately 50 former employees of Flextronics International in Portsmouth.
"This Administration is committed to helping workers who are transitioning," said Secretary of Labor Elaine L. Chao. "The $200,000 in funding will provide re-employment assistance, training and skills upgrades to these workers as they prepare for new careers."
The grant, awarded to the New Hampshire Workforce Opportunity Council, will provide an array of services, including assessment, individual counseling, career planning, employment development, occupational skills training, on-the-job training, entrepreneurial training, job-readiness training and adult education.
The grant will provide assistance to Flextronics International workers in Rockingham and Strafford Counties. Supportive services will be provided including childcare, transportation assistance and job-related certifications, uniforms and equipment.
National Emergency Grants are part of the U.S. Secretary of Labor's discretionary fund. A grant is awarded after a state submits a request and the grant guidelines have been met.
