U.S. Secretary of Labor Elaine L. Chao Announces $749,921 Grant to Aid Dislocated Workers in Wisconsin

WASHINGTON - U.S. Secretary of Labor Elaine L. Chao today announced a National Emergency Grant of up to $749,921, with an initial release of $162,385 to assist approximately 245 dislocated workers in Wisconsin.

"Wisconsin workers affected by these closures could use a helping hand as they move ahead in this stressful time," said Secretary of Labor Elaine L. Chao. "This grant will provide training and other supportive services to help these workers prepare for new careers and a promising future."

Workers were dislocated as a result of closures at First Federal Capital Bank and Company Store in La Crosse, Wis., and Eaton Corporation in Necedah, Wis.

The grant, awarded to the Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development, will provide skills upgrading and retraining, including computer training. Supportive services will also be provided.

National Emergency Grants are part of the Secretary's discretionary fund and are awarded based on a state's ability to meet specific guidelines.
