Local Licensing Authorities
Coroners are elected county officials.
Coroners must have a high school or college degree and pass a criminal background check. $25,000 minimum bond required.
A coroner who owns, operates, is employed by, or otherwise has an interest in a funeral establishment shall not direct business to such establishment when performing his duties.

Beginning in 2003, Coroners must complete training in medical-legal death investigation as specified by the Board.
Fees for training to be paid by county government. Some training and certification programs are available through the Colorado Coroners Association.

Coroners, along with hospitals and health care providers, are required to report to the State Disease Control Division Reportable Causes of Morbidity and Mortality.
