Expertise Required

Commodity Server is for end users with some computer experience. Installation of the service and the client is automated through a Windows setup program. The automated data import facility probably requires some more advanced users as it is configuration file based.

Users

Several thousand copies mostly in the United States.

Audience

Anyone that has to keep track of a lot of time series data. In the energy sector, you might use it for load and various commodity price curves management.

Input

Any time series data

Output

Values contracts and portfolios, also exports web based presentations (slide shows similar to power point).

Computer Platform

Windows

Programming Language

C++, Assembly

Strengths

High level of integration and good user interface. Database is fast. It allows for variable interval length measurements and has an integrated contract piece. Extensive and powerful charting system including easy to configure scales, units of measurement and time. Users can compare various time spans together on the same chart, but with different axes.

Weaknesses

Lacks an automatic method for getting time series data into the database from all the various markets around the world or real-time measuring sources. Other tools under development include a Monte Carlo portfolio evaluation engine. Cut/paste among fields is being improved as is printing.
