A simulation program based on object-oriented approach that allows dynamic modeling of different power systems of multi-level hierarchy, starting from heat-moisture transfer processes in building envelopes up to HVAC systems of large enterprises, residential and industrial zones. ModEn simulation minimum time step is 10-3 seconds.
ModEn allows modeling of hydraulic and power processes in the systems of heat supply and heating, including ring distribution systems with a concurrent creating of pressure graphs. Very simple design of the work of automatic systems in a dynamic mode.
3-D modeling of temperature and moisture fields in constructions. ModEn also supports carrying out energy audits.

Expertise Required
High level of computer literacy not required; engineering background helpful for analysis of HVAC systems. Creating of elementary object and building templates requires good understanding of physical process.
Users
More than 20 in Russia and Belarus.
Audience
Energy, mechanical and architectural engineers working for engineer firms, consulting firms, utilities, federal agencies, universities and research laboratories. Managers and economists working in energy audit should also benefit from ModEn.
Input
When working with ModEn templates and creating complete models: characteristics (geometry, loads and etc), then connection of ports using a graphical editor or a table editor, run-time input such as time step and parameter values.
Output
Many formatted reports available directly by ModEn or exported to word processing or spreadsheets, text files or data base, graphical display of results for any simulation variable.
Computer Platform
Windows 98/2000/NT/XP
Programming Language
C++
Strengths
Flexible and powerful. Capable of modeling complex HVAC systems to any level of detail. User-selectable time step allows modeling short time-step dynamics. Symbolic input of formula avoids programming. Easy to assemble model from templates (using drag & drop technology). Open for editing and creating templates and formulas in models. Different users are updating and exchanging template libraries of HVAC components and systems. Modeling of transient processes. Perfect for education and research programs.
Weaknesses
Not easy to make 3-D model in interface (for example, temperature fields). High engineering level of user expertise in system being modeled required.
