Absence

Annual leave will normally not be granted while students are in training. Leave requests for special situations will be granted only when both the appropriate program manager and agency representative agree that the leave request is reasonable and should be approved. Sick leave will be granted as required.

Illness

The Center physician and nursing staff are available Monday through Friday, from 7:00 a.m. to 6:30 p.m (excluding government holidays). Charges for medical care received by a facility other than the Center Health Unit is the responsibility of the student.

Personal Mail

All personal mail should be addressed using this format:

FLETC
Student's name
Class title and number
1131 Chapel Crossing Road
Glynco, GA 31524.

Students in advanced classes that have class materials to be mailed to their duty stations must have mailing labels from their agency or pay for the postage.

Official Telephone Calls

Necessary official calls must be coordinated through your program specialist or on-site organization representative. Charge-a-call telephones are available for students who have been issued an official charge card.

Personal Telephone Calls

Because of the large number of students in training and the limited number of personnel available to answer the phones, all students are requested to restrict incoming calls to emergency calls only. Arrangements should be made to call family and friends after hours and to prevent non-emergency incoming calls. Pay telephones and charge-a-call phones are conveniently located in the various housing areas.

Valuables

Students are urged not to leave valuables in the dormitory room or in their off-Center housing room. Dormitory rooms are equipped with locked cabinets. Most motels have a place to lock up valuables upon request. The safeguard of personal valuables lies with the individual student. Please be careful. Personal weapons will not be stored by the Firearms Division. Students should be informed not to bring personnel weapons with them. If you have additional questions contact Training Resources Coordination (TRC) at (912) 267-2269.

Student Activities

There are varied activities in which the student can participate such as basketball, weight training, racquetball, softball, tennis, golf and volleyball. Participants are required to provide their own footwear. In addition to the activities listed, each dormitory has various small games, pool tables, table tennis, and television for the relaxation of the students. Inquiries and suggestions regarding student recreation may be directed to the Recreation Specialist, commercial (912) 267-3764 (once on Center, dial the last four digits).

Leisure Hours

Leisure and off-duty clothing should be commensurate with the climate during the student's stay at the Center. The climate at Glynco is relatively mild the year-round with a mean temperature of 68 degrees. Temperatures may reach the mid 90's during the summer months, and down to the 20's in the winter months (January and February). Humidity is high year-round.

Credit Union

The Glynn County Federal Employees Credit Union located at FLETC (Building 86) offers a variety of services for a nominal fee, including cashing government checks, money orders, travelers checks and personal checks (limit $100). Two-party checks are not accepted by the Credit Union or any local bank; nor does it handle credit card cash advances. The Credit Union does accept incoming/outgoing wire transfers, sells money orders and travelers checks, and offers free notary services and discount cards to Disney World. An Automatic Teller Machine is available at the FLETC Convenience store and at several places in the local community.

Cameras and Photography

FLETC policy prohibits taking identifiable facial photos of students or staff without prior permission of the individuals involved. In addition, it is against the law for certain agency personnel to be photographed under any circumstances. (This policy stems from a need to protect criminal investigators who may perform undercover work.)

Although this policy does not preclude “fond memory” type photographs or photography necessary as a part of a course of instruction, students and their visitors are required to adhere to this policy and remain sensitive to its purpose and intent.

Please report all suspicious circumstances involving photographic film images being taken to the FLETC Security and Emergency Management Division at 912-267-2102.

Types of incidents include, but are not limited to:

  • Anyone seeming to be capturing images of individuals without their knowledge;
  • Anyone making a detailed record of all or any part of the FLETC installation;
  • Anyone attempting to obtain class pictures that they themselves are not physically in.
