KING COUNTY, WASHINGTON - The King County Board of Health will hold its next meeting on Friday, June 11, 2004, from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

IX. Briefing - Local Hazardous Waste
The Local Hazardous Waste Management Program in King County is a State mandated (RCW 70.105.210) program to manage hazardous waste from households and small businesses. The Board of Health established a Management Coordinating Committee for this program comprised of senior managers from each of the implementing agencies and an elected official representing the suburban cities. The Board of Health will hear a panel presentation by Management Coordinating Committee representatives providing overviews of their agency programs.

X. Briefing - Second Hand Smoke
Representatives from the Tobacco Prevention Program, Public Health - Seattle & King County, will brief the Board regarding the significant health risks associated with second hand tobacco smoke.

The King County Board of Health sets county-wide public health policy, enacts and enforces local public health regulations, and carries out other duties of local boards of health specified in state law. These duties include enforcing state public health statutes, preventing and controlling the spread of infectious disease, abating nuisances, and establishing fee schedules for licenses, permits and other services.
