Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender Pride Month

WHEREAS, the Puget Sound's gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender (GLBT) community has made immeasurable contributions to the fabric of our region; and

WHEREAS, King County applauds the pride and commitment of our region's GLBT community and honors its contributions to the stability and well being of our region; and

WHEREAS, King County's GLBT community continues to struggle for equal rights for all people, speaking out against intolerance and discrimination and fighting tirelessly to break down the walls of fear and prejudice; and

WHEREAS, this year's pride celebration offers us the opportunity to recommit ourselves to the struggle for civil rights for all people and to value the humanity and dignity of our gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender neighbors; and

WHEREAS, this month, marks the 30th anniversary of the Pride Celebration in Seattle and many organizations, community groups, and churches in King County and around the nation will host celebrations and educational events;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Ron Sims, King County Executive, do hereby proclaim June 2004 to be

Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender Pride Month

in King County. I encourage all residents to join me in celebrating the spirit and dedication of this vibrant community and to participate in the many festivities of Pride Month that will take place throughout King County.
