Single Stick Update
The Oregon Department of Revenue now has a cigarette tax stamp that can be applied to the Single Stick single-cigarette product that is sold in a plastic tube. The new stamp is available for sale to all licensed cigarette distributors beginning May 14, 2007. The stamp represents a $0.059 tax per single pack cigarette. The new tax stamp is a self-adhesive stamp that must be affixed by hand.

The Single Stick single-cigarette product may now be sold in Oregon, but only with the appropriate stamp affixed to the plastic tube. The department's previous instructions still apply to all Single Stick single-cigarette products that do not have a stamp affixed. Please review deadlines for distribution and retail sales of any old stock of unstamped Single Stick cigarettes.
  • Last date Oregon licensed cigarette distributors could sell unstamped Single Stick was January 31, 2007.
  • Last date Oregon retailers can sell unstamped Single Stick product is June 30, 2007.
  • After June 30, 2007, any unstamped Single Stick product will be considered contraband and may be subject to seizure, civil penalties, and criminal prosecution.

If you have additional questions regarding the legal ability to sell the Single Stick product in Oregon, please contact Lorie Jensen with the Tobacco Compliance Unit at (503) 947-2279.
