Tropical Storm Fay Continues to Produce Torrential Rainfall and Extreme Flooding Over Southern Brevard County
Strong persistent rain bands south of the center of Tropical Storm Fay will continue to bring heavy rainfall and very hazardous flooding across southern Brevard County...mainly south of State Road 520. Latest storm total rainfall amounts at the Melbourne Airport is 12.92 inches and the NWS office in Melbourne has received 16.46 inches so far. Higher amounts from 15 up to 24 inches have been reported along John Rhodes Blvd north to Suntree and Wickham Road in the last 24 hours.
For those living or planning to drive to locations in southern Brevard County it is highly recommended to remain off the roadways...as drainage ditches and retention ponds are overflowing. The roads are difficult to see and it is very dangerous to drive! Do not drive across places where water of unknown depth covers the road as they may be washed out!
If you have a life threatening emergency...call 911...and if you need guidance on what to do if water threatens your home...call city or county officials with emergency management.
