The Year of Water
September 9, 2008—Our fourth podcast for Sigma Xi's Year of Water is an interview with Peter Gleick that was conducted at the National Academies Water Science and Technology Board's annual meeting in Washington, D.C. Gleick is president and co-founder of the Pacific Institute for Studies in Development, Environment and Security. He will also be a guest panelist at the 2008 Sigma Xi Annual Meeting and Student Research Conference, November 22, in Washington, D.C.
In 2008 we will focus on what many consider the most critical issue in science today—WATER.

Cates to Head Organizational Advancement for Sigma Xi
Phillip K. Cates has been named director of organizational advancement for Sigma Xi, a new department combining the Society's development and membership departments. He comes to Sigma Xi from Compassionate Capital, a capacity building and resource development consulting firm.
Presidential Candidates Address Science Policy Issues
Sigma Xi is proud to be a part of Science Debate 2008, which called for the major presidential candidates to address the state of American science. Annual Meeting Online Registration Now Open
The Annual Meeting and Student Research Conference will feature talks by Jet Propulsion Laboratory Director Charles Elachi, Inforex President Robert Boily, General Motors engineer Patrick Usoro and University of Oxford mathematician Mason Porter. The meeting will be held in Washington, D.C.
David Schoonmaker Named Editor of American Scientist
After a year at the helm as acting editor of American Scientist magazine, David R. Schoonmaker has been named editor of Sigma Xi’s flagship publication. His appointment follows a 15-year tenure as managing editor. In all, he has 35 years of experience in magazine production.
