U.S.-Dominican Republic Free Trade Agreement |
| On March 15, 20004, the United States and the Dominican Republic concluded negotiations to integrate the Dominican Republic into the Central American Free Trade Agreement. Under the terms of the Agreement, 80 percent of U.S. exports of consumer and industrial goods, including forest and fishery products, will enjoy duty-free access as soon as the Agreement goes into effect, with remaining tariffs phased out over five or ten years. Poland Health Certificate Notification |
| In a letter to the European Union's Director General for Health and Consumer Protection (dated April 2, 2004), Poland's Deputy Chief Veterinary Officer, Dr. Iwona Zawinowska, advised that Poland will accept, for a period of 30 days, currently valid health certificates -- issued up through April 30, 2004 -- for fishery product imports into Poland that originate from third countries. The transition period will be from May 1 through May 30, 2004. Consequently, the certificates
issued on May 1 and thereafter for shipments to Poland must be valid health certificates for U.S. exports to the EU, which are issued by U.S. regulatory authorities. Exporters of U.S. fishery products should contact the U.S. Food and Drug Administration's Center for Food Safety and Applied Science (CFSAN) for information about EU certification requirements.
