National Guideline Clearinghouse™ to be Unveiled January 14

The National Guideline Clearinghouse™ (NGC), http://www.guideline.gov, an Internet-based repository for clinical practice guidelines, will be unveiled at a press briefing January 14, 1999. The NGC was developed by the Agency for Health Care Policy and Research (AHCPR) in partnership with the American Medical Association (AMA) and the American Association of Health Plans (AAHP). AHCPR, AMA, and AAHP have been working together in a public/private collaboration since September, 1997. The NGC is an electronic database that will expand access to evidence-based clinical practice guidelines for all health care professionals.

The press conference agenda will include remarks from AHCPR Administrator John Eisenberg, M.D., AMA Board of Trustee Member Yank Coble, M.D., and AAHP President and CEO Karen Ignagni. Douglas Kamerow, M.D., Director of AHCPR's Center for Practice and Technology Assessment, will demonstrate an NGC search during the press briefing. Interested reporters also will be able to query the NGC via a live Internet connection immediately following the press conference.
