What is CoCoRaHs?
PRELIMINARY data indicates that this event is the third wettest tropical cyclone to affect the state of Florida and by far the wettest for east central Florida. A maximum rainfall total of 27.65 occurred 8 miles NW of Melbourne. The previous rainfall record for a tropical cyclone in the region was set in 1950, when Hurricane King dumped 15.44" of rain on Patrick Air Force Base near Cape Canaveral. Hurricane Wilma of 2005 holds third place--it dumped 13.26" on Kennedy Space Center.

prior to the onset of sustained Tropical Storm or
Hurricane force winds when severe thunderstorms (wind
gusts to 50kt and/or 3/4 inch or larger hail) are observed
or forecast. |
SVS - Severe Weather Statement - Provide
information on severe weather conditions that are
occurring or have occurred. These were issued to update
Severe Thunderstorm and Tornado Warnings. |
TOR - Tornado Warning - issued when a reliable
tornado report has been received or if Weather Service
Doppler radar indicates a tornado signature or a high
probability of tornado occurrence in an environment
favorable for tornado genesis. |
SPS - Special Weather Statement - used to
describe the possible adverse effects of weather that are
below warning or advisory criteria. |
FFA - Flood Watch - issued when there is a
threat of significant flooding. |
FFW - Flood Warning (Flash) - reserved for short-term
flooding events (< 6 hours) which require immediate action
to protect lives and property, such as dangerous small
stream or urban flooding. |
FLW - Flood Warning (Areal) - reserved for longer-term flooding events expected to occur more than 6 hours following the causitive event. |
LSR - Preliminary Local Storm Report - issued as reports of severe weather are received from outside sources. |
