Labor market completes sixth year of expansion in 1988

Both civilian and nonagricultural employment continues to rise. The 5.3-percent unemployment rate in the fourth quarter was the lowest since the second quarter of 1974.  This article examines developments in the labor force, employment, and unemployment during 1988.
