*Explanation of Tabular Data:
(Hst) is the significant wave height forecast (what you would expect a buoy to report). Since the significant wave height is
usually a combination of swells and wind wave, the Tabular Data breaks out individual wave groups (denoted as Hs). You
can use this to get an idea whether the significant wave height is due mainly to swells (periods 8 seconds or greater) or local wind waves (typically 4-6 second periods). Wave heights are in meters (multiply by 3.28 to get feet). Wave period (Tp) is in
seconds. Wave directions are the direction the waves are moving TO (i.e. 270 degrees is for waves moving FROM the east
TO the west).
Note that the Day & Hour column gives the UTC Date/Time (subtract 4 hours for EDT, subtract 5 hours for EST) and that the
table always has a 6 hour hindcast (i.e. 12z model run will give 6 hours of data backwards to 06z). |
