With the searchable online SSA Death Master File, you no longer need an IT staff to maintain and update a large database of deaths reported to the SSA. You no longer have to deny your organization the ability to use the Death Master File to verify/validate the death of an individual because of scarce resources. Applications are available to meet your needs, whether you only need a limited number of inquiries or an ongoing subscription to search for/match hundreds or thousands of names and social security numbers.
Yearly subscription for a selected number of user ID's to search the Social Security Administration's Death Master File (DMF): 1, 5, 10, 25, 50, or unlimited. Each user may log in to the ssdmf.com Web site and conduct searches for individual Social Security numbers. Interactive Mode is recommended for companies, banks, etc, that need to check a few numbers relatively often, and need to provide database access to staff members at other locations, e.g., banks with branches throughout the country. This service is not recommended for companies that need to verify large volumes of Social Security numbers, nor for companies or individuals who wish to use the system only once or twice, nor for companies or individuals who need to check the same numbers on a regular basis.
Subscribers may purchase a particular number of queries to the Social Security Administration's Death Master File (DMF)--1,000, 2,500, 5,000, or 15,000, but should not purchase more than they feel they will use in one year . Subscribers may upload a list of Social Security numbers to check against the DMF database, and the number of queries in each upload will be deducted from the overall subscription. The subscription will expire when the number of queries selected has been reached or at the end of one year, whichever occurs first. Manual Batch Processing is recommended for companies and government agencies that need to check a large list of numbers occasionally. For example, a company issuing a yearly mailing to its 5,000 customers would want to check its list to make sure it is not sending mailings to customers who have died. The company could purchase 5,000 queries each year to check its list. Manual Batch Processing is not recommended for companies that need to check large lists on a regular basis, nor for companies who need to check just a few numbers at a time.

Automated Batch Processing is not recommended for companies that need to run queries only once or twice per year, nor for companies or individuals who need to check only a few numbers at a time, nor for companies that do not need to check the same numbers more than once.
Subscribers may purchase access to the Social Security Administration's Death Master File (DMF) Web Service for a particular number of queries-5,000, 15,000, 25,000, 50,000, 100,000, or 200,000 queries, but should not purchase more than they feel they will use in one year . Subscribers will be provided with a user ID and password and can then write their own program to interface with the Web Service. The number of queries performed will be deducted from the subscription. The subscription will expire when the number of queries selected has been reached or at the end of one year, whichever occurs first. Web Service access is recommended for companies and government agencies that need to integrate a Social Security verification process with an existing program, e.g., a bank needing to verify the Social Security number of a new account holder automatically while setting up the new account or an office, such as the Division of Motor Vehicles, that may wish to integrate a Social Security number verification with its driver's license application process. The Web Service is not recommended for companies that do not wish to write their own integration programs or that do not need to automate Social Security number checking with an existing system.
The Death Master File Limited Inquiry Product is for use by individuals or companies that would only need 1, up to 100 queries of the Social Security Administration's Death Master File (DMF). Access expires after the specified number of queries is used or within one year, whichever occurs first. Limited Inquiry Products are available for 1, 5, 25, 50, or 100 queries and are recommended for use by individuals or small companies that need to check no more than 100 numbers per year. For example, individuals doing genealogy research may verify the date or place of death of a member of their family. Limited Inquiry Products are not recommended for use by companies or agencies that need to verify a large number or that need to use the search service regularly.

For the larger inquiry packages (100,000, 200,000, 400,000, 750,000, and 1 million), subscribers will also have the option of sending their lists to NTIS/GIM on CD-ROM and having the queries processed by NTIS/GIM. The results will then be put on a CD-ROM and mailed back to the subscriber. This will eliminate the need for subscribers to upload extremely large files.
