| Arlington F&W Trooper and Deputy Honored for Rescue Attempt | ||

Lieutenant Randy Scorby Fish & Wildlife Division - East Region Office: (541) 523-5848  (Photograph left to right: Sheriff Lohrey and Trooper Ring) Sherman County Sheriff Brad Lohrey recently recognized the fearless rescue efforts by an Oregon State Police Fish & Wildlife Division trooper and one of his deputies in May 2008 of a windsurfer who had a heart attack on the Columbia River during very hazardous conditions and inclement weather. Sheriff Lohrey extended his appreciation with plaques presented to Trooper Travis Ring and Marine Deputy Cliff Jett for their part in the rescue effort of a windsurfer that was exhausted and stuck on a sandbar near Rufus, Oregon. Both officers worked against hazardous water conditions and high winds to respond by boat to assist the windsurfer. Prior to their arrival the person quit breathing, CPR attempts were unsuccessful and the person died by the time they arrived on scene. The plaque read: "On May 7, 2008 under extremely hazardous conditions, and with winds from 50 - 60 mph, you performed an outstanding service, without regard to personal safety, to the citizens of Sherman County by initiating a water rescue of a windsurfer in distress. You are commended for your outstanding service." Trooper Ring, age 30, has been with the Oregon State Police for 2 ½ years and is assigned to the Fish & Wildlife Division at the Arlington work site. ### www.oregon.gov/OSP ###
