Welcome to the website of the Department of Pediatrics at Baylor College of Medicine. We appreciate your interest in our department and in its many patient care, research and educational programs.

The Department of Pediatrics of Baylor College of Medicine is primarily affiliated with Texas Children's Hospital. The close relationship between these two internationally renowned institutions began in 1954 when Texas Children's Hospital opened it doors in the Texas Medical Center and shortly after Baylor College of Medicine had moved to Houston from Dallas. It was at this time that the hospital and the medical school began its affiliated residency training programs. The affiliation agreement between Baylor College of Medicine and Texas Children's Hospital continues to flourish, bringing outstanding benefits to both institutions.

Today, the Department of Pediatrics at Texas Children's has 535 full-time faculty. Some of these faculty members provide staffing for the Pediatric Services at Ben Taub General Hospital, a public hospital that provides care to citizens of Harris County.

In addition to the full-time faculty, there are 165 pediatric house staff, and 184 fellows in pediatric subspecialty training. Training is provided at the fellowship level in all pediatric subspecialty areas for which certification can be obtained through one of the sub-boards of the American Board of Pediatrics as well as The American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology and the American Board of Allergy and Immunology.

The Department and the Hospital feature joint programs in many areas including:

Department faculty receive more than $101 million per year in extramural grant support, the majority of which comes from the National Institutes of Health (NIH). In any given year, the members of the department publish more than 800 papers in the peer-reviewed medical literature. Many members of the faculty serve as editors or co-editors of major pediatric general or subspecialty textbooks.

Please do not hesitate to contact me personally or anyone in the Department at our e-mail addresses.

Thank you again for your interest in our Department.

Sincerely,
