Summary: The focus of this research will show results in improved screening and treatment rates and lower rates of pelvic inflammatory disease among 16-26 year old patients. Study physicians will complete a year-long series of Internet learning modules that integrate case-based education with audit, feedback, and benchmarking of practice profiles. In addition, physicians will be able to customize and print patient education brochures and QI items from the modules.

Summary: This project will analyze Medicaid claims data to relate the introduction of primary care case management in Medicaid and the availability of SCHIP to: (1) changes in availability of Medicaid providers across ZIP Codes in Alabama and Georgia; and (2) changes over time and differences across plans in children's use of medical care.

Summary: The Massachusetts General Hospital, including the Multicenter Airway Research Collaboration (MARC) Coordinating Center, held an expert consensus conference to address the deficiencies in asthma education in the emergency department, and will design a research strategy to implement and assess its effects. Participants will develop a research agenda, including a multicenter, randomized clinical trial to assess the effects of a focused asthma education program on asthma outcomes.

Summary: This study will use a three-level, hierarchical regression technique for obstetric deliveries in Arizona, with the goal of developing a statewide hospital profiling methodology in the analysis of variations in obstetric hospital length of stay. The study will also use the results to develop hospital profiles on the basis of the regression results.

Summary: This dissertation grant supports a project that aims to: (1) examine the temporal variations in time to infant death from perinatal related causes for each birth weight group and race group; (2) examine the association between the length of stay for the initial hospitalization of very low birth weight infants, and the time to their death from perinatal causes during infancy; and (3) examine the potential association between length of hospitalization and time to infant death.
