Superfund Basic Research Program

SBRP Training Cores provide an opportunity for students and post-doctoral fellows to interface with varied scientific disciplines. In addition to fostering cross-training of students in disciplines not traditionally linked in their university structure, Training Core activities also enable investigators and students to be better prepared for careers in science through advanced skill training in targeted communication and outreach efforts.

For the past fifteen years, the Superfund Basic Research Program has supported the advancement of the Program's mission by sponsoring interdisciplinary training and development for graduate students and post-doctoral fellows in the biomedical sciences, epidemiology, ecology, and geosciences. Each SBRP grantee is encouraged to build programs that result in structured, interdisciplinary training as part of their overall program.

While transferring knowledge about the Program to those interested in furthering its research, such training also provides students with valuable exposure to different research disciplines integral to their own academic interests. Perhaps most importantly, it provides critical leadership experience that will prepare these individuals for careers in academia, industry, federal government, or state and regional environmental agencies.
