The goal of the training program is to train environmental pathologists with broad awareness of major human environmental diseases and expertise in modern techniques and strategies that reveal mechanisms by which environmental agents perturb cellular processes to cause disease. The program supports Ph.D. degrees in environmental pathology and postdoctoral training in research. The training program draws faculty from the Department of Pathology in the Medical School and from various federal, industrial and independent research laboratories in Research Triangle Park. The research emphasis areas of the program are on pathogenesis of cancer (cytotoxicity, cell cycle control and DNA repair) and neurodegenerative diseases.
