The broad-based and multidisciplinary Toxicology Training Program prepares students for biomedical research careers related to the study of toxic compounds, including environmental hazards and drugs, as well as mechanisms of toxicity. The areas of research emphasis represented by the 13 training faculty include neurotoxicology and neurodegenerative disease, mechanisms of cell death, oxidative DNA damage and repair, and environmental assessment and epidemiology. The most important component of the training is laboratory research, first as a series of three research rotations, then in the dissertation laboratory. The Toxicology training program is organized within the Molecular and Systems Pharmacology graduate program, and includes core coursework in toxicology, biochemistry, pharmacology, cell biology, molecular biology, and biostatistics, and advanced courses in toxicology specialty areas, seminar courses and journal clubs.
