Answers to Questions about Housing Services

  • Who is eligible to receive housing assistance through County DDD?

County DDD can assist people who are enrolled with DDD. Please see more information on eligibility for enrollment with DDD.

  • What types of housing assistance can I receive through County DDD?

If you are a client of State DDD, we can assist you in identifying housing options and possibly in finding affordable housing. We work through your case manager to identify housing that is appropriate for you. The first step is to contact your case manager who will get information from you about your housing needs. County DDD and State DDD will then identify affordable housing that is available, and add you to a wait list of people who need housing.

If you are about to lose your housing, County DDD may be able to help you with temporary assistance, if that assistance will help you maintain your housing over the long term.

  • How can you help me find affordable housing for an adult relative or friend with disabilities?

Many families in King County have worked creatively to secure housing for their family members with developmental disabilities. County DDD housing staff can talk with families about strategies that you can use to create or find affordable housing for family members, and direct you to resources to help you plan for a family member's housing needs.

  • How can I connect with other people who want to explore housing options for themselves, or for a relative or friend with developmental disabilities?

County DDD in conjunction with the Washington Initiative for Supported Employment (WISE) currently hosts a housing potluck once a month. This is a potluck where families can network about housing and find out about current resources and options that are available. This potluck is currently being hosted as part of WISE's My Home, My Life project.

  • What should I do if I am about to be evicted or have my utilities shut off?

Contact County DDD housing staff or your State DDD case manager to find out if you might be eligible for County DDD emergency assistance funding.

  • Who can I contact with housing questions?

    Karl Tegenfeldt
    Housing Coordinator, King County DDD
