King County Plan for Developmental Disabilities Services

The King County Plan for Developmental Disabilities Services will guide the County's funding for supports for individuals with developmental disabilities from July 1, 2005 through June 30, 2009. The Plan was developed by KCDDD staff and the King County Board for Developmental Disabilities between September 2004 and March 2005. KCDDD staff compiled data to identify critical system issues and needs including:

  • Sponsoring a series of 13 focus groups involving 68 community members (the Report on King County Planning Focus Groups is Appendix A);
  • Analyzing demographic and service data from the DDD Common Client Database and the Infant, Toddler, Early Intervention Program Database (the summary of data is Appendix B);
  • Reviewing findings and recommendations in recent reports and plans about services for individuals with developmental disabilities in King County (the summary of reports and plans is Appendix C); and
  • Mapping (jump to maps) the distribution of King County residents enrolled in the State Division of Developmental Disabilities.

KCDDD staff and the Board analyzed the data and identified key issues as well as proposed goals, objectives and strategies for addressing those issues. The public was invited to comment on the Draft Plan between April 1, 2005 and May 2, 2005 by submitting an on-line comment form, sending written comments to KCDDD or attending public meetings held in Seattle, Federal Way, Bellevue and Lake Forest Park. The Draft Plan was revised after the public comment period. The King County Board for Developmental Disabilities approved the final Plan in early June 2005.
