Greetings,
Welcome to the Department of Public Safety Standards and Training (DPSST). It is truly an honor and a privilege to serve as the agency’s director. Working with so many passionate and dedicated employees makes it a true pleasure to introduce you to the services and programs we provide.
Our mission and statutory obligation is to train, license and certify Oregon’s many public safety professionals. We take very seriously our role preparing and maintaining highly-skilled, knowledgeable and ethical men and women; individuals dedicated and well prepared to meet the challenges ahead.
DPSST’s mission is critical to the ongoing safety and security of our communities. It is our goal to ensure that those who protect life and property are well versed in the principles of our constitution and the laws of our great state. Building a firm foundation of training at a minimum standard of proficiency is our first goal. In partnership with other public and private entities we hope to provide a higher level of competency among our graduates. More importantly, we hope to reinforce the highest ethical decision making and character qualities among those unique individuals seeking to serve in these important professions.
As an organization we agree to utilize the public and private funding we receive in the most effective, efficient way possible, continually analyzing the programs and services we provide to make certain they are current, relevant and in the public’s best interest. We value the relationships developed with our public safety constituents and private service providers. These combined efforts result in the delivery of relevant training and the development of standards that are equitable to all.
