Retail Food and Interstate Travel Team
(RFITT) Letters

Instituted April 1999

CFSAN's Retail Food and Interstate Travel Team (RFITT) issues letters in response to questions about the Model Food Code and other retail food protection issues. Letters do not have the same level of research and review as the formal Model Food Code Interpretations. When the letter content has universal application, it is posted to complement other FDA mechanisms used for information dissemination.

Local regulatory program officials should contact their state program officials for specific guidance on the application of their retail food code. State officials should contact their FDA Regional Retail Food Specialist for assistance with the FDA Model Food Codes.
