Housing BAH Information

Training Center Yorktown does not have a local Housing Officer. If you desire information on available government leased housing, call ISC Portsmouth at (757) 686-4081 and ask for the Housing Officer.

Training Center Yorktown falls under the Military Housing Area (MHA) for Hampton/Newport News, Virginia. This area is designated a Critical Housing Area (CHA). Critical Housing Areas are locations where both military family housing and civilian housing are in short supply. Since the Training Center is located in a CHA, members transferring to Training Center Yorktown may elect to leave their families at another location in civilian housing and request their BAH be based on their dependents location or, if the dependents have not moved incident to their sponsor’s PCS, at the rate applicable to the member’s previous PDS, whichever is to the member’s advantage. Payment of BAH under the Coast Guard’s CHA policy may continue until: (1) the member executes a PCS out of the CHA, (2) separates from active duty, (3) dependency status changes, or (4) dependents relocate out of the MHA for which BAH is authorized.

For more detailed information on the Coast Guard’s CHA policy, as well as a list of all current CHAs, visit the G-WPM-2 web site: http://www.uscg.mil/hq/g-w/g-wp/g-wpm/g-wpm-2/cha.htm.
