NHLBI Educational Materials Catalog: Your Guide to Lowering Cholesterol with Therapeutic Lifestyle Changes (TLC)

Your Guide to Lowering Cholesterol with Therapeutic Lifestyle Changes (TLC)

Need to lower your cholesterol? TLC (therapeutic lifestyle changes) is a set of tools you can use to get results. This easy-to-read booklet is designed to help you make the lifestyle changes that will lower blood cholesterol and reduce your risk for heart disease. It explains how to follow the TLC diet (low in saturated fat, trans fat, and dietary cholesterol), increase physical activity, and manage weight for people whose cholesterol level is above their goal. The guide includes helpful lists and charts, sample menus, a 10-year coronary heart disease risk calculator, and many tips for success. Make TLC part of your program for heart health.

Generally informative. Suggest having a "printable" format without all the color. Also, contact/number, whatever, to order the booklet and any related publications.

My 53 year old husband just had a heart attack. This publication is a great start toward improving my new, lean "twigs and bark" diet for him. I love the realistic advice!

This document is excellent. Could you make it easier to find? It should be featured right at the beginning of your cholesterol page with an easy link by icon and title. Don't bury it! It's great!

This is one of the best overall discussions on Cholesterol I have read. Nice job. Clear and complete. Thanks.

Extremely helpful and practical resource Much needed and useful information. Goes beyond the doctor saying that I had to lower my cholesterol. Actually gives a practical plan on how to do so. I have used some of this public domain material to speak to this issue on my career change website.

This was very informative but I wish you would have information for those that have high cholesterol but do not need to limit calories, or actually need to keep a large number of calories in the diet in order to just maintain their weight. High cholesterol affects skinny people too!

I already have high blood pressure and I was recently diagnosed with diabetes. My doctor said my cholesterol was in the danger area, so I guess all of these conditions put me in the Metabolic Syndrome area. She prescribed a different HBP med and suggested diet and exercise. Changing a lifetime of bad habits is not easy but with the help of the TLC guide I've already started to lose weight and I am actually looking forward to my next doctor's appt. because I am making actual progress towards my goals of losing weight and exercising. Thank you so much for this guide, we can all benefit from a lot of TLC.

Very complete; menus are good resource
This is a lengthy educational piece, but you can focus on portions of the packet and get quality information. The TLC menus are a great resource.
