1994 CAMERA TOWS (CoAxial and Axial North Rift) There were 2 different sets of camera tows in 1994. Camera tows 94cam1-8 were done off the ATLANTIS II with the USGS camera system. Camera tows 94cam9-19 were done off the DISCOVERER with the NOAA camera system. All ATLANTIS II tows are navigated by intellifish and had a CTD on the camera frame to record depth and temperature. For tows 1, 2, 6, 7, 8, ship's nav and round trip travel time to a relay 50 m up the cable were recorded. For tows 3, 4, 5, not all the data was recorded, so parts had to be reconstructed (see more extensive notes in their respective subdirectories). Ranges were calculated from round-trip travel time by simply assuming 1500 m/s (multiplying by 750 m/s, since it is round-trip) and adding 50 m (the distance from the relay to the camera on all tows). For the DISCOVERER tows, all were transponder navigated except 94cam19. Present filename Tow location 94CAM1.GPS S. Cleft 94CAM2.GPS E. Blanco depression 94CAM3.GPS E. Blanco depression 94CAM4.GPS S.
